“Xiao Xiao” Beginnings
Xiao Xiao Tea is a little taste of home for the owner, Kate.
After immigrating to the United States from Taiwan in 2019 and eventually landing in Utah with her husband, she knew she wanted to be her own boss. After planning, working, and saving for several years, Kate and her husband were able to finally open Xiao Xiao Tea, the most authentic boba milk tea in Utah!
Why Boba Tea?
Simply put: it’s delicious!
Boba was invented in Taiwan in the early 1980’s, where Kate grew up enjoying it as a delicious after school and hot-summer-day treat. For her, boba is a wonderfully sweet reminder of home.
With the rising popularity of boba tea in the United States, Kate wanted to show people the best of what Taiwan has to offer in the best way she knows how - drinks and treats!
What does “Xiao Xiao” Mean?
‘Xiao’ means ‘small’ in Mandarin Chinese, and ‘Xiao Xiao’ is an affectionate way to say ‘itty bitty’ or ‘tiny’!
As for what is means for our shop - it doesn’t really mean much, we just thought it was cute! We promise you that our tea is not tiny!
It’s pronounced something like ‘shee-ow shee-ow’. Next time you are in the shop, try to say it! We always love hearing it!
